Q: What is the difference between a Set Medic, EMT and Paramedic?
A: O.K each one has it's own meaning the term "Set Medic" is a loose term given in movie industry. A Set Medic can either be a EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) or Paramedic. A EMT Emergency Medical Technician is a person that has BLS (Basic Live Support) skills and they are right below a Paramedic. A Paramedic is the highest level of pre-hospital emergency care you can receive.
Q: Can I hire just a Paramedic ?
A: Yes, but understand unless the Paramedic is under a doctor or medical director ( like on ambulance service ) THEY CANNOT PREFORM THEIR SKILLS IN CALIFORNIA! (Insurance and Legal issues) You will have the benefit of their knowledge and they can do everything a EMT can do. However if you see i.v's / heart monitors i.e anything that is above a EMT skill (Basic Life Support) then contact California State EMS Authority as this person is acting in violation of their certification without medical direction from an approved provider. More importantly they could loose their licence and open you up to liability.
Q: Can I just Call 911 ?
A: Yes, We call them also from time to time, people have pre-existing conditions we are there when they get ill or injured. We have quality medical personal that can make proper recommendations. Time is everything... Someone needs immediate care when you call 911 from a cell phone you are routed often time from two to three different agencies before the call gets dispatched... then the crew has to receive the call often times copy the information and then drive to the call. We are on-site this makes up for a huge gap in critical care.
Q: What equipment do you carry?
A: We carry everything a BLS ambulance has that includes a A.E.D (Automatic External Defibrillator) Oxygen trauma bag and 100 over the counter items from band aids to alka-seltzer. Our EMTs have the best equipment possible at their disposal.
Q: Why don't you have ambulances?
A: We do not have "AMBULANCES" nor do we transport patients off private property. You need special insurance to transport patients to the hospital or medical facilities and there are special regulations on a state and federal level of the type / condition of an ambulance. We have "First Aid Vehicles" and "Mobile First Aid Stations" that were ambulances in their previous life. That huge cost savings can now be passed on to you.
Q: How Do I find out if my EMT or Paramedic has proper certification?
A: This one we get a lot on each EMT or Paramedic has gone through hundreds of hours of training. You must get their State of California Licence a number and contact California State EMS Authority or the
National Registry Certification which ever certification you get a copy of be sure that it is current and valid. ( we recommend checking the links once you have the id number )
